UN pledges $2.4 billion for Afghanistan – Afghanistan

Kabul – In view of the increasingly dramatic situation in Afghanistan, the UN on Thursday pledged $2.4 billion in humanitarian aid. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, however, had acutely estimated the country’s needs at around four billion euros. The economy in Afghanistan has effectively collapsed, nine million people are at risk of starvation, and the situation is “alarming,” Guterres said at the start of a virtual donor conference.
