Kia’s importer to Israel, announces the beginning of the marketing of the fifth generation of the Sportage, when from 2008 until today, more than 80,000 Kia Sportages have hit the road in Israel.
The new Kia Sportage offers an up-to-date exterior design, an interior space at the forefront of technology that includes a built-in rounded display, advanced safety systems and a variety of propulsion units.
The new Sportage was developed on the basis of an up-to-date architecture, with the help of which the cargo capacity, headroom and legroom have increased compared to the outgoing Sportage.
The new Sportage features advanced passive and active safety systems with DriveWise technology, including Kia’s comprehensive package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Kia’s new design language, Opposites United (Unified Contrasts), unveiled earlier this year, is at the core of the new Sportage.
Up front, the new Sportage features graphics of the front grille that stretches the entire width of the front. The grille connects Kia’s unique “Tiger Nose” front grille to the unique Boomerang-style LED daytime running lights, which create solid boundary lines for the main LED headlights.
At the rear, the Sportage has a design that flows into the taillights connected by horizontal lines, which give the new Sportage a wide look.
The interior of the new Sportage offers soft materials for touch and the latest technology to create an interior space focused on the driver.
In the center of the cabin of the new Sportage sits a rounded built-in display, which combines a touchpad and sporty vents. The rounded view extends across the front of the interior space.
A high-resolution 12.3-inch touch screen is used for the connectivity, functionality and usability needs of the driver and front passenger. The angled system towards the driver is designed to be easy to use and extremely intuitive alongside a 12-inch dashboard equipped with the latest generation of TFT liquid crystal display that provides clear graphics.
For the driver and front passenger, an ergonomic center console has been installed that provides storage, operating system configuration, cup holders, a quick charging surface for the smartphone – in some trim levels, and switches, with the latter sitting on a raised profile next to the dial (also in trim levels).
The interior space of the new Sportage is based on a wheelbase of 2,680 mm, a width of 1,865 mm, a length of 4,515 mm and a height of 1,645 mm. All of these produce a leading package in the segment in terms of legroom and headroom and cargo capacity. The Sportage offers a 996mm legroom for second-row passengers, and the rear headroom stands at 998mm. The cargo capacity is up to 591 liters (VDA standard). For maximum comfort, the rear seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 ratio, achieving a maximum cargo volume of 1,780 liters.
The new Sportage offers a range of KIA propulsion systems, including the latest generation of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines.
The new 1.6T-GDI engine produces 180 hp. The four-cylinder engine achieves fuel economy thanks to a new combustion process, cooling technologies and friction reduction measures, including an advanced integrated thermal management system and the use of low-friction ball bearings.
The new Sportage’s model set also includes an efficient 1.6-liter diesel engine, with a power of 136 hp. Using SCR pollutant emission control technologies, the new diesel engine prevents pollutant emissions such as NOx and particles.
The 1.6T-GDI petrol and 1.6-liter turbo diesel engines are mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT).
The Sportage offers the latest passive safety, active safety and advanced driver assistance (ADAS) technologies from Kia Korea.
A vehicle with a reinforced and lightweight structure with high torsional rigidity. The new Sportage contains various safety restraint systems and structure, including a driver’s airbag, a front passenger airbag, side curtain cushions, side cushions and a central airbag between the front seats.
ADAS technology – an advanced driver assistance system, also known as DriveWise – helps the new Sportage avoid potential obstacles, and provides better protection for passengers and other road users on each trip. As part of the DriveWise package, the new Sportage includes the front-end collision assistance system, with * Junction Turning function, which helps prevent collisions with cars coming from the opposite side when turning left at intersections.
The new Sportage also includes ISLA technology – smart assistance for maintaining the speed limit, which provides an alert if the vehicle exceeds the speed limit.
A new system for preventing collisions in dead areas – BCA, will alert the driver when activating the signal to cross a lane, if there is a danger of a collision with a vehicle that is behind and on the side. After the alert, if the risk of a collision increases, the BCA system actively controls the new Sportage to help prevent a collision. The BCA system is also active in situations such as parallel parking maneuvers, and here too helps to avoid a collision with a vehicle that is on the side and rear.
Urban model – The entry-level model is available with a 1.6-liter turbo gasoline or diesel engine, and includes a full range of new-generation active safety systems:

- LKA + LFA – Active systems to prevent deviation from the lane (starting from 60 km / h) and save the lane center (from speed 0)
- BCA + RCTA – system for monitoring vehicles in dead space, including prevention of crossing to an unpaved lane and system for monitoring cross-traffic traffic, including braking (up to a speed of 8 km / h).
