Government express buses ply from the capital Chennai to neighboring states as well as Tamil Nadu. In this context, the Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that special beds will be provided for women in refrigerated and non-refrigerated state buses with bed facilities.
Accordingly, it has been ordered to allocate 1LB and 4LB beds for women while booking on government buses. According to the State Express Transport Corporation, when a female passenger does not make a reservation, it can be treated as a public bed and reserved for other passengers.

However, it was also informed that the place should be kept vacant till the last time of departure of the bus.
