Four pilots were killed when two fighter jets collided head-on in South Korea.

The Seoul military says four pilots were killed when two South Korean Air Force planes collided head-on on Friday (April 1).

The KD-1 training jets crashed near the city of Saxion, about 300 kilometers south of the capital Seoul, military officials said.

“Two KT-1 training jets at Sacheon Airport crashed midway during training,” the defense ministry said in a statement. Four pilots were reported killed in the crash.

The Air Force will “check the exact circumstances of the damage and investigate the cause of the crash,” the statement said.

Following that, a total of 130 troops, 95 police officers and 60 firefighters and three helicopters began searching the crash site, local government officials were quoted as saying by the Yonhap news agency.

The Air Force, which said there were no civilian casualties, has set up a team to find the cause of the crash and damage, including many residents.
