Police have arrested three people, including the girl’s mother, her cousin and a woman in custody, for allegedly sexually harassing a girl in Chennai for 9 years.
The administrator of the archive has been arrested for sexually harassing a girl in a private archive in the Peravallur area of Chennai in 2020 and the case is being heard in court. The judge then proceeded to interrogate the sexually harassed girl and another 22-year-old woman who was with her.
The woman then told the judge that she had been suffering from such harassment since she was 9 years old. Following this, the judge ordered the Department of Child Welfare to conduct an investigation. Following this, Child Welfare Officer Lalita interrogated the woman and lodged a complaint at the Rayapuram All Women’s Police Station.
In it, “Shanthi from Kasimedu area of Chennai has handed over his one year old daughter to a relative as a foster child. His relatives have been sexually harassing him since he was 9 years old. Authorities rescued the woman and kept her in a private shelter in Peravallur after locals and children reported to the Department of Child Protection that she had left home in the 1990s and wandered off the Broadway.
At the time, the archive manager had told Isabella about all the sexual harassment that had happened to her. It was in this context that a case was registered at the Peravallur All Women’s Police Station alleging that he had sexually harassed a girl belonging to the archive.
After receiving the complaint, the Rayapuram All Women Police arrested three persons, namely, Thai Shanthi, Aunty Revathi and Archive Administrator Isabella, in connection with the incident. Police are also searching for the woman’s mother Desappan, her friends Ramesh, Srinivasan and Siva for sexually harassing her.
