IslamabadPakistan’s Deputy Speaker denies voting in a no – confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. The speaker walked out, saying the no-confidence motion was unconstitutional. The Assembly adjourned indefinitely.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan recommended the dissolution of the National Assembly. If the president accepts Imran’s recommendation, Pakistan will go to the polls next. Imran said he would remain a caretaker government until the election.

The Pakistani prime minister also lashed out at the opposition, saying the mistrust against him was a foreign agenda. It is not foreign powers that should decide the affairs of the country. Imran thanked the speaker and the people for rejecting it.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, a minister in Imran’s cabinet, has said that Pakistan’s prime minister could be arrested if Imran Khan loses the no – confidence vote. It is in this context that the Deputy Speaker was reportedly denied permission to vote.

Meanwhile, a ban was announced in the national capital, Islamabad, ahead of today’s assembly. Imran Khan did not attend the assembly.

The Imran Khan government is in crisis after its main ally, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P), withdrew its support. The seven-member MQM-P also demanded the resignation of two of its ministers. The no-confidence motion was passed by 172 members of the 342-member assembly. Imran’s party has 155 members.
