A new parliament is elected in Hungary

After counting most of the votes, the prime minister’s ruling Fidesz party is clearly ahead of an alliance of the six main opposition parties. Orban could even defend his two-thirds majority in parliament.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban has ruled Hungary for 12 years and is on track to secure a fifth term. Because the six-party opposition alliance Alliance for Hungary would have to achieve a clear majority in view of the electoral system tailored to the governing party in order to oust Orban.
