An airstrike is said to have taken place in the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil. An explosion was heard in the city, Ukrajinska Pravda writes today, citing Mayor Serhiy Nadal. Nadal asked residents to go to shelters. Local media also reported explosions in the Russian-held city of Kherson. Eyewitnesses also reported explosions in the port city of Odessa in southern Ukraine.

Heavy fighting also continues in the port city of Mariupol, which is besieged by Russian troops. The British Ministry of Defense said the city continued to face intense and indiscriminate attacks, but Ukrainian forces put up stubborn resistance and maintained control of the central areas.

Russian troops are said to have started withdrawing from the eastern Ukrainian region of Sumy. However, it is still too early to speak of a liberation of the region, said the head of the Sumy regional administration, Dmytro Schywytskyj, according to the Unian agency in a video message at night.
