To put a little butter in the spinach of its constituents, the town hall of Burlats has decided to offer a “good fuel” to all the households of this village in the Tarn, which is added to the discount of 15 to 18 cents per liter decided by the government. “There is a surge in the prices of energy, raw materials, a drop in purchasing power. So we wondered what we could do for our citizens, ”explains Serge Sérieys, the mayor of this Tarn town of 2,200 inhabitants northeast of Castres who voted the decision Thursday evening in the municipal council.

In the coming weeks, the 1,000 households in this small community will be able to collect their voucher for an amount capped at 60 euros and go to refuel in a nearby supermarket with which the town hall has signed an agreement. An expenditure of 60,000 euros included in the budget of the municipal council and which concerns only main residences.

“This represents 15% of the revenue from the property tax, we have made savings almost everywhere, it is an exercise that is not easy but we have succeeded. It is our role as elected officials, we are not there only to do tarring, ”says the city councilor without a label.

Already help on the price of water

For the elected officials, it was important to make a gesture for the purchasing power of the citizens in a municipality where “the car is essential” for daily travel. A measure in line with that which they had already taken during the movement of “yellow vests”. The town hall of Burlats had then decided to offer the first 20 m3 of water consumed by its inhabitants, ie a saving of around 50 euros per year for consumers. And four years later, Burlac households still benefit from it.
