The Sri Lankan parliament convenes tomorrow at 10 am amid a severe economic crisis.

The Sri Lankan parliament convenes with the formation of a four-member interim cabinet. The parliamentary session is being held as Sirisena’s Sri Lanka Freedom Party has withdrawn its support for the government. Fighting has erupted across Sri Lanka against the President and the Prime Minister due to the severe economic crisis. Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections.

In Sri Lanka, 26 cabinet ministers have resigned and a four-member interim cabinet has been formed. Basil Rajapaksa, the president’s brother, who was finance minister, was not given a seat in the new cabinet.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has decided to leave the Sri Lankan government. Duminda Dissanayake, the National Organizer of the Freedom Party said that a resolution to this effect has been passed at the Central Working Committee meeting of the party. Meanwhile, the UPFA has said that Lasantha Alakiyawanna, Duminda Dissanayake and Priyankara Jayaratne have decided to step down as joint ministers. While all the cabinet ministers have already resigned, three of the associate ministers have now resigned.
