The beautiful story would not be one. In 2012, Eric Abidal had benefited from an organ donation, a liver transplant more precisely which had saved his life while he was fighting against cancer. At the time, everyone had followed this episode with the greatest benevolence. However, since 2017, the Spanish police have opened an investigation, considering that there had been several irregularities in the procedure for this organ donation, which is highly regulated.
The former FC Barcelona player but also the former president of the Blaugrana club, Sandro Rosell, have been under investigation for accusations of organ trafficking. Until today, the former defender of the Blues had always defended himself vehemently from these accusations. As early as 2018, they were suspected of having illegally purchased this liver.
But now this Monday, the Spanish site El Confidencial reveals that the National Institute of Toxicology would have carried out several analyzes which prove that Gérard Armand, the donor, has no relationship with Eric Abidal. These new elements which will obviously be made available to the Barcelona court which is investigating this long-term case. Eric Abidal will no doubt have to answer more and more specific questions again.
