The report, co-authored by 278 scientists from 65 countries, contains some bitter truths. The fact is that in order to save the world, carbon dioxide emissions must be halved by 2030. The amount of carbon dioxide released during the decade between 2010-19 was the highest ever. In the 160 years from 1850 to 2009, 1990 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide was emitted.
But over the next decade, 410 gigatons, or a fifth of what had been dumped in the previous 160 years, had been dumped. The UN says only 410 gigatons of carbon dioxide will be emitted from 2020 onwards in the overall future to control climate change and the resulting global warming. Anbumani noted that this has been warned in the report of the panel of experts.
But, given the amount of carbon dioxide emissions we have emitted in the last decade as a whole, we can realize how much we are forced to reduce carbon emissions. The increase in carbon dioxide emissions must be controlled by 2025 and then reduced; By 2030 it should be 45% lower than in 2010 and zero by 2050. Anbumani also warned that this is dangerous.
Disaster can only be controlled by reducing the use of coal & petroleum, making clean energy available to all, changing urbanization, making healthier changes in living conditions, changing the way buildings are set up, changing transportation, changing factories, and changing land use. Achieving UN sustainable goals by doing so; Improving the health of the people; Anbumani points out that there are benefits to be gained, including increasing employment.
Failure to follow this guideline of the UN will not save us from disaster. The major droughts, heat waves, floods, hurricanes, water shortages, new diseases, and economic impacts that we face due to global warming will increase many times over. Anbumani said governments should realize that the best way to prevent this is to immediately declare a climate change emergency in Tamil Nadu and India and take action on a war footing accordingly.
