Israel PM Naftali Bennett Loses Majority as one MP Resigns | Israel: The problem with the post of Israeli Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett caused by sourdough bread

by time news

Israeli Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett is in trouble. Idit Salman, the most important ally of his coalition government, has resigned. This was done by MP Silman on the rules regarding the provision of food in hospitals.

JERUSALEM: In Israel, the government of Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett has become a minority government following the resignation of a single member of parliament. This situation has arisen due to the resignation of Idith Salman, a member of the ruling coalition. After a controversy over the rules on catering in hospitals, MP Idit Silman has decided to leave the ruling coalition. Within a year of taking office, Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett’s position was in jeopardy as he withdrew support.

The reason for Idit Silman’s anger

It is hoped that elections will be held in Israel soon. Although the government of Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett continues to be in power, their position in the 120-member parliament has weakened.

The only problem is that the government allowed hospitals to provide yeast bread. These foods are forbidden according to the spiritual tradition of Israel.

The Jews have some restrictions on the Jewish 40-day festival of Passover. That means they should only eat dry breads called unleavened bread. Fermented bread with yeast should not be eaten.

Therefore, he has now resigned, saying that admitting yeast-mixed foods in the hospital is not in line with spiritual traditions.

Bennett is an 8-party coalition government

The current ruling coalition in Israel has eight political parties, ranging from Islamists to conservative nationalists and liberals. All of these parties came together to oppose former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Currently in the Israeli parliament, there are 60 members in the coalition of Naphtali Bennett. Parliament has not yet begun a session, and it is unclear whether there is enough support for the opposition to pass a no-confidence motion. If the government fails to get a majority, elections will be held in Israel for the fifth time in three years.

Netanyahu praises rebel MP

After resigning, MP Zillman said he could not co-operate with the government, which was working to hurt Israel’s Jewish beliefs and the people of the country. He said he would work to form a right-wing government in the country. Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Silman and welcomed his return to the nationalist camp. It is noteworthy that the Bennett government also had differences of opinion regarding the Indian trip.
