Dubai: A new federal law regulating media, publications and online platforms will be introduced this year. The announcement was made by Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Noura bint Mohammed al-Kaabi before the Federal National Council. The new law is an amendment to the federal law on media and publishing. The law is being drafted by updating and modernizing various regulations in line with the changes in the technology sector.

Minister Noura al-Kaabi said the law would consider traditional media and new media created with technological advancement and would be drafted in direct consultation with relevant authorities and media experts. The Strategic Monitoring Division of the Media Regulatory Office is responsible for reviewing all publications in the country, including print, visual and electronic media.

They are currently reporting on media activities at regular intervals. Matters to be dealt with will be forwarded to the responsible departments. The minister was responding to a question from Federal National Council member Obaid Khalfan al-Ghul al-Salami. The Minister said that the Media Regulatory Office of the country and the National Emergency Management Authority are working together to monitor the publication of various online platforms and other media in emergencies and emergencies.
