U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to visit Taiwan, according to a report in the Fuji News Network. The move is expected to provoke strong opposition in Beijing.
Pussy is expected to arrive in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, after visiting Japan this coming Sunday. This will be the first visit by the House Speaker since Newt Gingrich in 1997.
The offices of Pelosi and the Taiwan Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the reports, according to Bloomberg.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has warned that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan will severely hurt US-China relations. “China opposes any official communication between the United States and Taiwan,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian.
