Senior General: Keep the Revolutionary Guards on the list

U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Miley has said he opposes the U.S. plan to remove the Iranian Revolutionary Guards from the list of terrorist organizations.

“I think the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards is a terrorist organization,” Miley said today during a Senate hearing. “And I do not support his removal from the list of terrorist organizations.”

As you may recall, the Americans are considering removing the Iranian Revolutionary Guards from the list of foreign terrorist organizations, in exchange for an Iranian commitment that they will take over the operations of the military body.

This move would overturn President Trump’s 2019 decision to put the organization on the terror list. It was the first time the US administration had defined part of a foreign sovereign state as a terrorist organization.
