Chennai: The 71st National Senior Basketball Championship, organized by the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association with the support of the Indian Basketball Association, is being held at the Nehru Stadium in Periyamedu with the support of the Indian Railways team. 31 state teams including Tamil Nadu are participating. In the second ‘league round’ match played yesterday morning, Punjab team defeated Assam team by 72-37 points and Indian Railways team defeated Madhya Pradesh team by 94-38 points. In the men’s division, UP defeated Telangana by 77-69 points. Teams with a presence in the tournament will clash in the next first group and teams in the next places, including the second and third groups. Then, the tournament will be held in knockout mode, the tournament organizers said. As for Tamil Nadu, the men’s team won all three matches that clashed till yesterday. The women’s team is in the lead, winning two of three matches.
