The 11 episodes on Netflix, made by Shonda Rhimes, tell a real story that seems to be made up

It is surprising that these VIPs were so naïve and perhaps here the series has become unbalanced, but Anna Sorokin, Russian then Germanic origin, is a perfect example of a propertyless person who wants to get her name in the golden and worldly sky of New York . Something similar happened to Judy Holliday in a beautiful film by Cukor “The Girl of the Century”, but here we go to prehistory.
Anna, on the other hand, is someone who gives a hundred dollars a tip but he doesn’t pay for the big hotels where he stays, he buys a plane, he spends and spreads as they used to say, but he never pulls out a dollar, thanks to high-ranking friendships and some sentimental exploits. The virtual society should make a monument to her, she goes on without having anything in hand: in the end they discover her, she goes to jail, but she manages to ruin the family life of a good lawyer who cannot get her acquitted. Then she goes out, then goes back inside for a residence permit, now she is waiting for expatriation, but in the meantime she has become a star of the collective imagination.
The example is bad, let’s face it right away, but the stages of this resistible rise are often narrated in a tight, passionate way, playing with all genres of cinema, from sentimental to comedy to financial in a story mosaic in which the star is precisely the city that never sleeps. But the ace in the hole is a young and extraordinary actress, Julia Garner, already admired in “Ozark” (and also here full of faults and venial and mortal sins), very good at always making herself double and almost making us understand that not even she he believes fully, but renders his absence of reactions and thinking unequivocally. Not the same can be said for Anna Chlumsky who is the journalist with the fake name of Vivian Kent, all grimaces and wiggles, unbearable in her scoop anxiety that almost leads her to give birth in the editorial office at her imaginary weekly. And then she steals Draghi’s joke twice, saying: whatever it takes.
Apart from a certain repetition (too many credit cards and almost always not working) the very feminine story proceeds accumulating broken hearts for unpaid debts with some characters of broken-down girls always in the background of the metropolis that everything can be afforded, even a collective scam so colossal that it makes you forget the French Stavisky Affair told by Alan Resnais. Between exclusive clubs, fashion shows, department stores for VIPs, restaurants and clubs, in short, the opulence of the easy plus value, the series sometimes tells us more than the story of a poor emigrant who tries to climb to success without having the qualities, but unmasking a world of which he knows the defects and the low intellectual rate.
Living free of charge between villas and lounges that not even Guermantes, poor rich Anna, should not be made sympathetic, but has that horrendous quality of mischief, often an Italian specialty, which should be categorized as mortal and troublesome sins. To sell her story to Netflix, she apparently got billed $ 320,000, entering in part but this time with real money.
