Scientists have found the fossil of a dinosaur that was killed on the day an asteroid hit Earth 66 million years ago in North Dakota, USA.

Based on this discovery, scientists believe they got an unusual view of the last day of the dinosaurs.

The Guardian notes that the well-preserved leg of a thescelosaurus, which includes remains of animal skin, can be dated to the time the asteroid that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs struck Earth 66 million years ago. This matter was attributed by experts to the presence of residues from that collision.

“The chronological analysis that can be achieved at the discovery site is beyond our utmost ambitions,” said Philip Manning, professor of natural history at the University of Manchester.

He pointed out that the team also discovered the remains of fish that inhaled the remnants of the asteroid impact, which occurred 1,864 miles (3,000 km) away in the Gulf of Mexico.

“We have a lot of detail with this site that tells us what happened moment by moment,” said Robert DiPalma, a graduate student at the University of Manchester, who is leading the excavation at the Tanis site.

For decades, scientists have been researching and studying the remains of the dinosaurs on Earth, in order to dispel the mystery and provide answers to the questions raised about them.

And at the end of last year, scientists in southern China discovered a fossilized egg containing a 66 million-year-old, amazingly preserved dinosaur embryo called “Baby Yingliang”.

A fossil of the egg-stealing lizards, Oviraptorosaur, should help researchers discover the link between modern birds and dinosaur behaviours.
