The smuggling of racun rice continues in the Karaikudi area due to lack of police action.

Karaikudi

They are smuggling racun rice from the surrounding areas to a few rice mills in Pallathur near Karaikudi in Sivagangai district.

The raisin rice bags smuggled in a minivan and 2 two-wheelers two days ago were seized by the public and handed over to the Civil Criminal Investigation Department.

At this point again some people were smuggling racun rice in an auto and minivan. The drivers fled when the vehicles were caught by the public. About 2 tonnes of smuggled racun rice was seized from the vehicles.

“We have caught the smuggled rice four times in the last month alone with the cooperation of the public,” said Kothari Karuppaiya, city Congress president and city councilor. About 25 tonnes of racun rice has been recovered. Even if drivers flee, they can keep vehicle records and take action against owners. But no such action was taken.

Thus the kidnapping incident continues. There is a risk of accident as the vehicles transporting ration rice are coming too fast. As the Civil Crimes Investigation Department police station is in Sivagangai, the public will not be allowed to enter the field.

Therefore, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should intervene and take appropriate action as there is a fear of conflict between the ration rice smugglers and the public.
