After the Oscar Stage Incident: Heavy Punishment for Will Smith

by time news

Will Smith was suspended for a decade from the Oscars, following the slap in the face during the ceremony this year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced tonight (Friday).

“The council has decided that for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith will not be allowed to attend the academy’s events or programs,” the president and CEO of the academy said. The meeting, originally scheduled for April 18, was postponed after Smith announced his resignation from the academy last week.

The academy letter read: “The 94th Academy Awards ceremony was intended to be a celebration of the many people in our community who have done an amazing job in the past year. However, these moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior Mr. Smith presented on stage. “And we are sorry for that. It was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, our viewers and our academia around the world. Not ready for an unprecedented situation.”

As you may recall, at the beginning of the Oscar ceremony there was a violent and unusual incident, during which Will Smith hit the face of comedian Chris Rock, who presented one of the awards. This, after Rock joked at the expense of Smith’s partner, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who suffers from hair loss due to her medical condition. After Rock said that Pinkett-Smith looked like “GJ Jane 2”, her husband, the famous actor, got up from his seat, hit Rock and said, “Get my wife’s name out of your ***** mouth.”

As mentioned, following the incident, Smith announced his resignation from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: “Change takes time and I am committed to doing the job to ensure that I never again allow violence to override logic.”
