The change at the top comes after – after weeks of fierce battles – the Russian army failed to complete the conquest of any major Ukrainian city, and after suffering heavy losses (as acknowledged by the Kremlin spokesman).
According to British sources, Moscow now appears to be in a hurry – and for more political than military reasons: the goal may be to have some form of military success by May 9, the date on which Russia celebrates victory in World War II. .
