The revelation that the girl had cut her hair to escape being raped by Russian soldiers did not shock the world. A group of girls from Ivankiv, a neighboring village in Kiev, cut their hair en masse. According to the international media, the girls said that they did this out of a feeling that the soldiers would retreat without committing sexual assault if they felt unattractive. Ivankiv, who had been in the custody of the Russian army for more than a month, began to breathe on March 30.
The girls say they hid in basements and spent most of their time in bunkers. Earlier, there were reports of gang-rape and physical abuse by Russian soldiers in various parts of Ukraine.
