Pakistan overthrows Imran Khan regime, Imran Khan loses no-trust vote

Imran Khan’s regime was overthrown as the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition in Pakistan won. No Pakistani Prime Minister has completed a full five-year term.

Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections on March 28. However, the Deputy Speaker refused to hold a referendum. Following this, Imran Khan demanded that the parliament be dissolved and elections held. The president accepted his recommendation and ordered the dissolution of the Pakistani parliament. This, in turn, increased the buzz among the opposition.

At that point, the Supreme Court, which had given a sudden entry, ordered a voluntary inquiry and an immediate vote on the no-confidence motion. Accordingly, the vote on the no-confidence motion began today after a long drag.

Unexpectedly, Speaker of Parliament Azad Kuwaiser and Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri resigned. It was reported that they were resigning to avoid a no-confidence motion.

That is, in the 342-member parliament, Imran Khan needs the support of 172 members to continue in power. But 174 members voted against Imran Khan. Imran Khan was thus ousted from power.

While the supporters of the opposition are celebrating, the supporters of Imran Khan have been engaged in a sporadic struggle. Security has been beefed up due to the tense situation in Pakistan.

Parliament is scheduled to reconvene on April 11 at 2 pm to elect a new prime minister.

Ayas Sadiq, of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, who chaired the keynote session, said nominations for the new prime minister could be submitted by 2pm on Sunday and reviewed by 3pm. Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections.

Imran Khan, who was elected Prime Minister in 2018, faced a no-confidence vote based on allegations of economic misconduct. No Pakistani Prime Minister has completed a full five-year term.
