New trees and benches for the Bürgerpark

by time news

On Saturday, Mannheim’s Mayor for the Environment, Prof. Dr. Diana Pretzell in the Bürgerpark presented certificates to people who had donated money for trees and benches: 40 certificates for donated trees and three certificates for donated benches. Many donors brought the people they had donated to with them: grandchildren, spouses or close friends. Together they inaugurated their benches or symbolically completed the planting of their trees by giving them a watering can of water. Prof. Dr. Diana Pretzell expressed her thanks for the donations: “Bürgerpark is a beautiful piece of urban nature, a place to relax for people and a habitat for animals. Thanks to your donation, the city of Mannheim was able to set up benches and plant trees again this year. Your donation will benefit all citizens, because people like to live in cities with lots of greenery, and the greenery also ensures a balanced urban climate.” The presentation of the certificates was accompanied by music from the “CanTonia” choir of the Teutonia 1862 eV singing club from Feudenheim.

Long tradition

Mannheim’s Bürgerpark is on the Wingertsbuckel, between Feudenheim, Käfertal and the Vogelstang. Trees donated to the city by citizens are planted there every year and benches set up. Since the fundraising campaign began in 1988, 1,286 trees and 53 benches have been donated.
