After Yannick Jadot’s poor score, the number one in Europe Ecology-The Greens deplores “individual attitudes”

by time news

The day after the poor score of the environmental candidate in the first round of the presidential election with 4.6% of the vote, the national secretary of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV) returned in an interview to Sunday newspaper on the reasons for this failure. Julien Bayou mentions, in particular, “the question of individual attitudes” : according to him, “some and some did not play collectively”. “It does not make the entire result, but it did not help by undermining the collective work”he lamented.

If Mr. Bayou does not appoint Sandrine Rousseau, Yannick Jadot’s campaign was notably marked by dissension with his rival in the primary, who was disembarked from the campaign at the beginning of March.

For the national secretary, the party must also review its “internal functioning, sometimes too cumbersome”. And there is, finally, “the question of the project”. “We did not wait for Russia to enter the war to defend the importance of renewable energies. Still, between the project and the way we brought it to this campaign, we did not meet the population “he regrets, believing that environmentalists will have to compel themselves “to a doctrinal work to be deepened”.

“Ready to discuss” with La France insoumise

While EELV launched a call for subscriptions on Sunday evening – given Mr. Jadot’s low score, the party will not be fully reimbursed for its campaign expenses – Mr. Bayou warns: ” The situation is serious. » “We were vigilant at the end of the campaign by reducing the airfoil and not consuming all of the allocated budget. Finally, we have a hole of 5 million euros to assume “, he explains, before specifying: “In the immediate future, we have a deadline in five weeks with the bank and we need 2 million euros. With 2 or 3 euros per Yannick Jadot voter, we get by. »

Regarding the future, and in particular the legislative elections, Mr. Bayou said to himself “ready to discuss” with La France insoumise with a view to reaching agreements in certain constituencies:

“I don’t know what their bases of discussion are. I say let’s talk. We have to compare our points of view. We have major disagreements that should not be minimized: Europe, foreign policy… But we have also often found ourselves together in the street facing the social damage of this five-year term, we all have it in mind. . »
