Marina Beheretche & Ezekiel have already released their new work

Violinist Marina Beheretche and Ezekiel Kolektiboa have released the album ‘Aztarnak’, which includes the introductory song Tang’Aurresku, a song that “invites us to immerse ourselves in the heritage of our ancestors” on Tuesday morning.

The new works of the group of artists from the Northern Basque Country are based on mythology, songs, dances, stories and legends, “to make a mystical journey and discover fascinating corners full of mysterious characters”. A total of nine musicians were involved in the project: Marina Beheretche, violinist Joachim Bouillier, Aude Fade, double bass player Emmanuelle Bacquet, Emeline Bouillier, Vincent Planès, poet, singer and musician Mixel Etxekopar, txalaparta player Paxkalin Chabaño and Paxkaxkal Indo. They have collaborated with the young artist Arantxa Lannes to represent the cover and brochure drawings that accompany the album.

The starting point is 2021 and the result is a meeting between popular Basque music and classical music. The selected works are by five composers: Nathalie Biarnès, Peio Cabalette, Joël Merah, Frédéric Gaillardet and Mixel Etxekopar.

The project, presented in Bayonne, is described as “unique” by Elkar, which mixes “different aesthetic and artistic perspectives”. “A look at Basque culture from the perspective of various contemporary artists: a total of nine musicians, one illustrator, the aforementioned composers and six creations,” they said.
