Tiktok is starting to gradually release today the beta version of Effect House – a platform that allows anyone to build effects for Tiktok. Effect House has only existed as a closed version since last August, and from today the platform is open to all creators, designers and developers interested in creating effects.

Effect House offers tools that combine intuitive design and development technologies that will help creators create effects. In addition to the Tiktok community guidelines it will be possible to create effects that are only adapted to the effects guidelines on the platform.

“Tiktok will not allow the creation of effects that promote racism or negative stereotypes towards minority groups, and also those that describe cosmetic surgeries, such as lip fillers, or those that encourage individual examination of another person’s appearance,” the company said in a statement. According to them, all the effects created by the effects creators will be tested by Tiktok’s trust and safety team, to ensure that the effects are in line with the platform’s policy before they are released to the extended community in Tiktok. If the trust teams recognize that an effect does not comply with the platform’s policy guidelines, the effect will be removed, and the creator of the effect will be notified. In addition, Tiktok will allow community members to report effects that they believe are inconsistent with the platform’s policies, by clicking ‘Report Effects’. As a precaution, there will be certain effects, such as those involving alcoholic beverages, that will not appear on the effects menu in Tiktok.
More than 450 effects creators who experimented with the beta version of the House effect and published the effects on Tiktok, inspired the creation of more than 1.5 billion videos, which garnered over 600 billion views worldwide.
