Tomorrow, Wednesday, at 3:00 p.m., the second phase of the Exit Operation begins, which the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) launches, until midnight next Monday, April 18, on the occasion of Holy Week. Is about the most important phase of this Special Operation in terms of volume since 8,460,103 journeys are expected, which represents an average of 1,410,103 daily journeys, 2.01% compared to the actual data for 2019.

Holy Week is one of the most conflictive periods of the year since on these dates there are a multitude of trips in a short space of time, with similar origins and destinations and carried out on the same days and hours, for which reason the DGT makes all the means available to this operation available , including both human resources (agents of the Civil Guard Traffic Group, civil servants of the Traffic Management Centers, helicopter patrols and personnel in charge of equipment maintenance and the installation of road measures ), such as technicians (780 fixed radars, 92 of them on stretches; and 545 speed control mobiles, in addition to 13 helicopters, 39 drones, 216 cameras and 15 camouflaged vans to control the use of mobile phones and seat belts ).

The traffic forecasts prepared by Tráfico contemplate that from the early hours of Wednesday afternoon there may be traffic problems and retentions at the exits and entrances of the large urban centers, both in the interior of the peninsula and those located on the outskirts and on the coast, moving as the afternoon progresses to the destination areas.

On Thursday, the intense traffic out of the large urban centers will continue from the early hours of the morning (especially between 8 and 14). In the early afternoon, this second phase of departure begins in Catalonia, anticipating traffic problems in this Community, mainly on the access roads to the coast, which link towns on the coast, as well as in those of access to tourist areas of rest, especially between 13 and 22 hours.

During Friday the 15th, both in Catalonia and in the rest of the Communities, the movement of vehicles in the direction of departure from large cities will continue in the morning, which may cause high traffic intensities. With the exception of Catalonia, this day will mainly be short-distance trips to leisure and recreation areas near urban centers. In the afternoon, short-distance movements will also take place throughout the national geography towards towns where processions are held.

On Sunday, the first return of this Special Operation begins in the Communities of Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid and Murcia, for so that throughout the day traffic management and regulation measures will be installed to encourage the entry of vehicles into large urban centers.

Traffic problems may occur, especially between 1 and 11 p.m., on the main road communication axes that channel the entire return movement for Holy Week, with the network of general interest, motorways and dual carriageways standing out for their intensity, as well as the highways of coastal and coastal areas and, late in the afternoon, the accesses of the large urban centers.

Finally, on Monday the 18th there will be a return to the Autonomous Communities where this day is a holiday (Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, Navarra, the Basque Country and La Rioja) which will cause traffic problems in a period similar to that of the day before (from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) on the main road axes of these Communities, as well as on the access roads of the neighboring provinces. In the rest of the Communities there will also be return movements since, in some of them, it is not until Tuesday when school and university activities resume.
