The Ministerial Committee on Privatization met yesterday (Tuesday) to discuss the privatization processes of the Israel Post and the Port of Haifa.

The committee’s decisions regarding the privatization of Haifa Port: The Ministerial Committee ordered the Haifa Port Company to sign an agreement to dismiss the lawsuit filed by it. Disposal of this claim is a step in the previously approved privatization process. Promoting the privatization of the port of Haifa will streamline port work, create competition between seaports and reduce the congestion at ports, which causes price increases.

It will be recalled that the Haifa Port Company filed a lawsuit against the Ashdod Port Company, claiming that the latter had reached the status of a monopoly in the field of vehicle unloading and that it had used this position to prevent fair competition in the field of car unloading. The Haifa Port Company claimed that over the years (2009 to 2015) it had suffered huge losses of NIS 117 million as a result.

The Minister of Finance, Avigdor Lieberman: “A series of messages in favor of increasing competition and service to the citizens of the State of Israel. We will continue to lead a policy of a free economy that will kick-start the Israeli economy. “
