The fishing ban in Puduvai, Karaikal will come into effect from midnight tomorrow.

Fishing ban

Central and State Governments set and enforce an annual fishing ban for fish breeding. In that regard, the fishing ban in the eastern coastal states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Pondicherry will start from midnight tomorrow (Thursday).

The ban will also apply to fishermen in the Pondicherry and Karaikal areas on the east coast. Accordingly, the fishing ban, which starts at midnight today, will remain in effect until midnight on June 14.

In a statement, Ganesan, pro-Fisheries Secretary, New Delhi, said:

The 61-day (including two days) fishing ban will be implemented from April 15 (midnight tomorrow) to June 14 this year, as implemented in previous years by order of the Governor to protect marine fisheries in the long run.

Accordingly, all types of boats other than traditional fishing boats such as rafts and country boats are towed with special trawlers along the eastern seaboard of the Puthuvai area from Kanagasettikulam fishing village to Murthikkuppam Pudukkuppam fishing village, from Mandapathur in Karaikal to North Vanzur and within the Enam fishing area.

Similarly, fishing in Magi will be banned for 61 days from June 1 to July 31.

Thus stated in that announcement.

Fish prices are expected to rise in the coming days following the entry into force of the fishing ban.
