The iconic 360 Chicago, located in the John Hancock Center, is set to undergo a significant expansion. The project includes a multi-story observation deck and a dedicated event space.
What’s the buzz? The 360 Chicago observation deck is getting a major upgrade, adding more space and experiences to the top of the John Hancock Center, located at 875 N Michigan Avenue. This expansion comes after the closure of the Signature Room, which occupied the same building on the northern end of the Magnificent Mile.
- Multi-story observation deck will be built.
- A 14,000-square-foot event space is planned for the 96th floor.
- The project will connect floors 94 through 96 with a large atrium.
- Construction is expected to take 18-24 months.
The Expansion Details
The current owners of the observation deck are spearheading the project, having acquired the nearly 30,000-square-foot restaurant space after its closure. This strategic move puts Paris-based attraction operator Magnicity in control of floors 94 through 96. The plan is to create the city’s first multi-story observation deck, with design handled by SEAM.
The multi-million-dollar project will incorporate the 95th floor into 360 Chicago and feature a 14,000-square-foot event space on the 96th floor. These three levels will be joined by a large atrium on the north side of the building, providing a spacious, open area with stunning lake views. The event center will overlook the atrium, creating a unique setting for weddings and other gatherings.

Magnicity is partnering with WB Immersive, based in Shanghai and Paris, to develop a new immersive destination. The team has previously worked on projects, including the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. Construction is expected to commence soon, with an estimated completion time of 18 to 24 months.
Did you know? The expansion comes years after the announcement of the AON Center observation deck, which has since been stalled.
Looking Ahead
The revitalization of 360 Chicago is a welcome development, especially considering the increased retail vacancy on the Magnificent Mile. This project aims to enhance the visitor experience.
