Meir Spiegler was elected today (Thursday) to the position of CEO of the IEC by the search committee, Globes has learned. Spiegler, who is finishing his term as CEO of the National Insurance Institute, is expected to replace Ofer Bloch in the IEC next month.

Spiegler, who has long been considered Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s preferred candidate, reached the final line of the search committee along with two candidates from the company, acting CEO Itzik Belmes and CFO Avi Deutschman. From the trio, Spiegler was chosen, who until about a month ago still served as a director of the company.

Following the approval of the Board of Directors, Spiegler’s appointment will go to the Gilour Committee for the Examination of Appointments in the Companies Authority, and from there to the signature of Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Energy Minister Karin Elharar.

Following his retirement from the National Insurance Institute, Spiegler gave a retirement interview to Globes in which he sharply criticized the budget department at the Ministry of Finance, commented on changes he made to Social Security, and predicted that the initiative he tried to promote a shortened four-week work week would be adopted in Israel earlier than expected.

The chairman of the IEC board, Dov Bahrav, said that “the committee was impressed by Spiegler’s experience and the innovative approach he presented by looking at the future of the IEC within the changing energy economy. I believe that together we can march the IEC while tackling the challenges of the period on a new path. “

Energy Minister Karin Elharar added: “I congratulate the board on completing the process and look forward to bringing the results to my approval.”

Spiegler would like to thank the members of the board for their choice: “I am excited and grateful for the opportunity given to me, on the eve of the company’s 100th year to lead it, its excellent management and employees.”
