The University of Exeter shines, earning a spot among the world’s top educational institutions for its commitment to a sustainable future.
- Exeter is ranked among the top 30 universities globally.
- The university excels in responsible consumption and production.
- Exeter placed in the top 50 worldwide in eight other categories.
The University of Exeter has once again proven its dedication to a greener world. The institution has been recognized as one of the leading educational institutions worldwide, securing a spot among the top 30, which places it in the top 2 percent, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025 released today.
The rankings evaluate over 2,300 institutions based on their contributions to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals are a global call to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030.
Shining in Sustainability
Exeter’s strongest performance was in SDG12, which focuses on Responsible Consumption and Production. This includes efficient resource use, minimizing waste, and ensuring sustainable consumption. The university ranked 2nd globally in this area.
The university also performed strongly in several other categories, ranking in the top 50 worldwide in eight additional areas:
- SDG 13; Climate Action (17th=)
- SDG 6; Clean Water and Sanitation (33rd)
- SDG 17; Partnership for the Goals (35th=)
- SDG 14; Life Below Water (39th)
- SDG 10; Reduced Inequalities (40th)
- SDG 7; Affordable and Clean Energy (41st)
- SDG 2; Zero Hunger (48th)
- SDG 15; Life on Land (48th)
Overall, Exeter achieved a score of 94.6 out of 100, positioning it at 28th place out of the 2,318 institutions assessed.

Professor Lisa Roberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, expressed her pride in the achievement. She emphasized the university’s commitment to a sustainable future.
