Following an indictment filed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection: The Magistrate’s Court in Be’er Sheva sentenced to two months in prison, for running in service work, for the consequences of illegal waste in the town of Elsaid near the town of Hura in the south in violation of the Cleanliness Law

Following a criminal investigation conducted by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Magistrate’s Court in Be’er Sheva sentenced two defendants to two months’ imprisonment to run service jobs to a licensed waste collection and disposal business.

In addition, the court imposed a four-month suspended sentence, a fine of NIS 50,000 on the defendant and an obligation of NIS 100,000 to avoid the offenses for which he was convicted for three years.

The investigation file of the Ministry of Environmental Protection was opened in 2020, following the dumping of illegal waste by the defendant in an open area in the public domain, in violation of the Cleanliness Law. The environmental offenses occurred in the southern town of Alside, in violation of the defendant’s business license for the transportation of waste that requires the transportation and dumping of the waste at legal sites. The defendant was convicted of violating a business license, removing waste to an unspecified site and soiling the public domain.

Defendant has previously been convicted of additional environmental offenses, which included waste disposal in the public domain and engaging in violation of license terms, alongside other offenses.

Judge Noa Haklai, vice president of the Magistrate’s Court in Be’er Sheva, noted in the ruling: “Considering the defendant’s past, there is no justification for sentencing him to the lower threshold of the compound, certainly when dealing with a repeat offense.

“Disposing of waste in the public domain is a violation of the law, harms the quality of life of those around it and may cause harm to public health.
