Kallazhagar will descend into the Vaigai River tomorrow morning as the culmination of the Chithrai festival. Devotees consider it a great privilege to witness the spectacular view of the river Vaigai.
About 10 lakh devotees from various parts of Tamil Nadu including Madurai, Dindigul, Sivagangai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram and Theni districts have flocked to Madurai since early morning to witness the spectacular sight.
A local holiday has been declared for the Madurai district on the 16th in view of the Alhagar river descent ceremony. 2,000 police have been mobilized to guard the festival. The State Transport Corporation operates 100 special buses to Madurai for the convenience of pilgrims from different parts of the district.
