in Marseille, Emmanuel Macron projects France into a “great ecological nation” to seduce the electorate on the left

by time news

He had promised to ” complete “ his project by drawing inspiration from that of his adversaries. Emmanuel Macron took a step, Saturday April 16, in the direction of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, during a meeting in Marseille, city of election of the deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône.

In order to seduce the electorate of the leader of La France insoumise (LFI) – who came third in the first round of the presidential election, on April 10, with 21.95% of the vote –, but also that of the ecologist Yannick Jadot (4.63%), the Head of State projected France into “great ecological nation”which would be “the first to come out of gas, oil and coal”. The promise of a radiant future, in short, like the sun that irradiated the grassy esplanade of the Palais du Pharo, from which the Old Port loomed in the background.

Emmanuel Macron thus assured to have heard the « message fort » addressed during the first ballot, on April 10, “to put the environment at the heart of [sa] campaign “. A subject of which the tenant of the Elysée intends to make a point of cleavage with his opponent in the second round, Marine Le Pen, carrier according to him of a “climatosceptic project, which wants to go beyond ambitions” carbon neutrality in 2050, “climate Europe”et “who wants to destroy the wind turbines”.

A prime minister “in charge of ecological planning”

He, on the contrary, promises to go “twice as fast” in reducing greenhouse gases. To appoint, also, a prime minister “directly responsible for ecological planning”. An expression borrowed from the program of Mr. Mélenchon. The Matignon tenant would be supported by a “Minister of Energy Planning” and a “minister in charge of territorial ecological planning”. The latter would be responsible for not letting “two anxieties face to face” : that of youth, concerned about the climate, and “those who fear too rapid changes”. A lesson learned from the crisis of “yellow vests”.

“The policy that I will pursue in the next five years will be ecological or it will not be”, continued Emmanuel Macron. In his own way, however. First, by betting on nuclear power – unlike Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Yannick Jadot – which would be coupled with the development of renewable energies. Then, by betting on innovation rather than “degrowth”claiming to want “doing ecology by continuing to produce”although he agrees with the need to “planning an energy sobriety strategy”.
