Actor Arun Pandyan has said that actors including Vijay and Ajith are getting 90 per cent of their budget for the film and thus the quality of Tamil cinema is facing setbacks.
The music release ceremony of the movie Aadhar starring Karunas was held in Chennai. Director Bharathiraja and others were the special guests. Speaking on the occasion, Ira Saravanan said that now is the golden age for Tamil cinema. Actor and producer Arun Pandian denied the allegations. Noting that the golden age of Tamil cinema was when some people like Bharathiraja made films, he said that films of actors including Vijay and Ajith are currently failing. He also blamed the low quality of the film as they get paid 90 per cent of the film’s budget.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Aamir said that he refuses to accept the comment made by Arun Pandian. Pointing out that many technical artists have worked effectively in Tamil, he lamented that Tamil cinema should not be underestimated. Responding to Aamir’s speech, Arun Pandian explained that he was pointing out that the quality of Tamil films was declining.
Director Bharathiraja, who spoke following the clash of opinions between the two artists, endorsed the opinion of Arun Pandian. He said the film would be of better quality if the actors’ salaries were reduced and the cost of production increased. Bharathiraja also lauded the fact that Telugu films are much better and grander than Tamil films in the current context.
The clash between two eminent artists over the quality of Tamil cinema sparked the Aadhar Film Festival. Arun Pandian’s opinion got great support there. But the question is whether the top actors will put this idea into action.
