Woman Injured After Bottle Thrown at Bus in Singapore
A 57-year-old woman was hospitalized Saturday evening after a projectile struck a public bus traveling along a busy commercial street in Singapore. The incident, which occurred on bus service 190 on Orchard Road, prompted a swift response from authorities and the bus operator, SMRT.
The incident unfolded at approximately 6:45 p.m. on July 5th, when an unidentified individual threw a bottle at the moving vehicle. The impact resulted in a cracked windscreen, according to a statement released by SMRT Buses deputy managing director Vincent Gay.
Immediate Response and Passenger Safety
The bus captain immediately brought the vehicle to a safe stop to assess the situation and ensure the well-being of passengers. “The bus captain brought the vehicle to a safe stop and checked on the passengers,” a company release stated. “All affected passengers were safely transferred to another bus to continue their journeys.”
Fortunately, the transfer process was executed smoothly, minimizing disruption for those onboard. However, one passenger sustained injuries as a direct result of the incident.
Medical Attention and Ongoing Investigation
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and local police responded to the scene. Authorities confirmed that the injured woman, 57 years old, was transported conscious to Raffles Hospital for medical treatment.
“The police are investigating the incident,” a spokesperson stated. The motive behind the act remains unclear at this time, and authorities are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information.
