Smarter tools for everyone
Imagine a world where tedious tasks vanish like morning mist, freeing you to focus on what truly matters. BBVA, a global bank, is betting big on that vision by implementing Google Workspace with Gemini for its more than 100,000 employees worldwide. The goal? To inject a potent dose of AI into everyday workflows and boost productivity.
BBVA has been collaborating with Google Cloud since 2011, so this move feels like a natural progression. Think about it: Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets—all supercharged with generative AI.
Time savings unlocked
The promise is tantalizing: Automating repetitive tasks could save BBVA employees an average of almost three hours each week. That’s time they can reinvest in strategic initiatives and, crucially, in better serving their clients. Less drudgery, more innovation—that’s the idea.
Bank professionals can expect to use Gemini to summarize emails, draft presentations, and even create videos. The AI assistant can also help with research, generate summaries from complex findings, and create reports, making it a versatile tool for a range of tasks.
Executive insights
“The collaboration with Google Cloud allows us to continue transforming the way our teams work, make decisions and collaborate, using the most competitive generative models in the market,” said Elena Alfaro, overall adoption responsible for AI in BBVA. “We foresee that Gemini with Workspace has the potential to simplify tasks and generate new ideas, which will significantly boost the productivity and innovation of our teams.”
Juan Ortigosa, Global Workplace responsible in BBVA, added, “More than ten years ago, BBVA transformed his way of working with Google Workspace. We hope that the generalized adoption of the generative AI in these tools will improve the productivity and work experience of all employees, regardless of their function, promoting a more dynamic and efficient environment.”
Isaac Hernández, country manager Google Cloud Iberia, noted, “The expansion of the alliance with BBVA shows how Generative artificial intelligence is transforming the business environment. In Google Cloud, we commit ourselves to provide the most advanced AI tools, such as Gemini, to help sector referents such as BBVA to achieve greater levels of efficiency and innovation. We are proud to be accompanying BBVA since years in his path of digital transformation, and we trust that Gemini’s integration into workspace continues to empower his teams and redefine the future of banking.”
Responsible AI adoption
BBVA isn’t just throwing AI at the wall and hoping it sticks. The bank has launched a mandatory training program, IA Express, focused on the general use of artificial intelligence. This program aims to equip employees with clear principles for safe and responsible AI adoption, aligning with the AI ACT of the European Union and BBVA’s internal data protection and confidentiality policies.
Access to Google Workspace with Gemini, as well as the Gemini and Notebooklm application, will be granted to BBVA employees who have completed the internal training. This ensures that everyone is prepared to use these tools effectively, ethically, and in accordance with the bank’s governance standards.
Early adoption in Uruguay
Just days after its global implementation, Gemini has already been rolled out to all collaborators in Uruguay. Javier Vinelli, data portfolio manager BBVA in Uruguay, explains that training and the use of Gemini are increasing steadily.
