Gyeonggi Province Expands Crucial Support for Residents with Disabilities

Gyeonggi Province is significantly expanding its financial assistance program to cover all registered individuals with disabilities, providing support for essential sanitary products like disposable diapers, absorption pads, and protective mats. The broadened initiative, announced on July 7, 2025, aims to alleviate the financial and logistical burdens associated with maintaining hygiene and providing care.

Expanding Access to Essential Supplies

Since 2021, Gyeonggi Province has offered a partial reimbursement – covering 50% of the purchase cost up to 50,000 won – for disposable diapers. This initial program was designed to reduce the daily challenges and caregiving demands faced by individuals with disabilities. Now, the province is extending eligibility beyond those with brain lesions to include individuals with spinal cord injuries, developmental disabilities, and other qualifying conditions.

This expansion represents a substantial increase in the number of participating businesses, growing from 1,415 to 3,548. The move underscores a commitment to inclusivity and recognizes the diverse needs within the disabled community.

Streamlined Application Process

All registered individuals with disabilities residing in Gyeonggi Province are eligible to apply for the program, regardless of income level, provided they meet specific qualifications. Once approved as a support candidate, applicants can receive reimbursement for up to 50% of their monthly diaper expenses – capped at 50,000 won – by submitting quarterly purchase receipts to their local Eupmyeon-dong Community Center.

Addressing a Critical Need

“The absorption supplies are a necessity that greatly reduces the quality of life of the disabled and the burden of care of the family beyond simple sanitary products,” stated a senior official from the Gyeonggi-do welfare department. This sentiment highlights the program’s focus on improving overall well-being and easing the strain on both individuals and their families.

The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of accessible and affordable hygiene products for maintaining dignity and promoting independence within the disabled community.
