“I couldn’t follow to the end”, admits van der Poel, 9th in Paris-Roubaix

Adrien Petit (FRA / Intermarché), 6th and first Frenchman: “I’m really happy with my race. I had been sick at the Tour of Flanders, I was not in a good spiral after having the flu, I didn’t really know where to place myself. I skipped the Amstel Gold Race to be comfortable here. We had a big race, I have no regrets, I gave the best. On the velodrome, I was confident to win the sprint of my group. I have already finished 9th (in 2017), now 6th, I am getting closer to the podium.

Mathieu van der Poel (NED/Alpecin), 9th: “It didn’t stop all day, it was difficult for everyone. I was at the back of the peloton when the Ineos attacked. The team did a great job of putting me back up front. Then I had to react several times to attacks and I couldn’t follow until the end. But I fought.”
