In Bihar, Nitish Kumar is the first minister of the Janata Dal party, which is part of the BJP’s NDA alliance.
Sahani, a leader of the VIP party that was part of the BJP’s NDA alliance, earned the BJP’s opposition by continuing to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who were campaigning for the Assembly elections in UP.
The BJP subsequently ousted him from the ministry and removed him from the NDA coalition government. In addition, 3 MLAs from the VIP party, which was part of the ruling BJP alliance, joined the BJP.
Thus the election field was a three-way competition.
The vote count for the by-election in the Pochahan Assembly constituency, which took place on April 12, took place yesterday.
In the by-elections held in various states across the country, the ruling parties have won in the respective states. But only in Bihar has the opposition won.
In the Pochahan by-election, RJD’s Amar Paswan got 48.52 per cent of the vote (82,562) and VIP’s Geeta Kumari 17.21 per cent. BJP candidate Baby Kumari got 26.98 per cent votes.
With this, the BJP has now emerged as the single largest party with 77 legislators in the Bihar Assembly. With this election victory, the RJD is one seat behind the BJP with 76 MLAs.
