Dr. Katie Edwards Named Chair of Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Board of Trustees
A respected pediatrician and community advocate, Dr. Katie Edwards, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (ASO) Board of Trustees, signaling a continuation of strong local leadership for the esteemed musical organization. The appointment recognizes Dr. Edwards’ longstanding commitment to the ASO and her deep roots within the Annapolis arts community.
A Legacy of Support
Dr. Edwards is not new to the ASO, having previously served on the board. Her connection to the Symphony runs even deeper – she is the daughter-in-law of Patricia Edwards, the organization’s inaugural executive director. This familial link underscores a multi-generational dedication to the ASO’s mission.
Alongside her husband, Jib, Dr. Edwards played a pivotal role in establishing the Patricia A. Edwards Chair and Scholarship. This initiative is designed to bolster the Symphony’s leadership pipeline and expand access to youth music education programs, ensuring the future vitality of the arts in the region.
Artistic and Executive Endorsement
The appointment has been met with enthusiastic support from the ASO’s leadership. Artistic Director José-Luis Novo hailed the decision as “a continuation of an exceptional legacy,” emphasizing Dr. Edwards’ unwavering dedication to the organization. “Katie’s dedication to the Symphony has meant a great deal to me personally and to our entire organization,” Novo stated.
Executive Director Erica Bondarev Rapach further praised Dr. Edwards’ passion for music, noting her unique engagement with each season’s repertoire. “Katie prepares a playlist for each ASO season and dives deep into the music. That kind of personal investment speaks volumes about her leadership,” Rapach observed.
Community Focus and Continued Commitment
Beyond her involvement with the ASO, Dr. Edwards is a partner at Annapolis Pediatrics, a mother of four, and a dedicated musician herself, continuing to pursue weekly piano lessons. She also brings experience from her service on the board of The Key School, demonstrating a broader commitment to education and community enrichment.
Dr. Edwards articulated her vision for the ASO’s future, stating, “I’m committed to helping the ASO deepen its connection to the community. The Symphony should feel like home for every listener, every child, and every family.” This sentiment underscores her intention to foster inclusivity and accessibility within the organization, ensuring the ASO remains a vibrant cultural hub for all.
