Apple Shifts Focus to 2026 with New Macs, iPads, and a Potential New Display

Apple is gearing up for a significant wave of product updates, but the bulk of the innovation will arrive in the first half of 2026, according to a new report. While the tech giant has several releases planned for later this year, a new Bloomberg analysis details a substantial roadmap for early 2026, including updates to the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and potentially a long-awaited new external display.

MacBook Pro and iPad Updates Lead the Charge

Among the most anticipated updates are new iterations of Apple’s professional-grade devices. A new MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip is in development, though it will represent the final version with the current design language. One analyst noted that Apple is already looking ahead, planning “new cases and a move to OLED” for the subsequent M6 generation.

The iPad line will also see refreshes. A new iPad Air is slated to receive the M4 chip, while the entry-level iPad will benefit from a faster processor. Both tablet updates are expected to maintain largely unchanged designs. A new MacBook Air is also on the horizon.

iPhone 17e and the Return of a Mac Display

Apple is also preparing a new iPhone 17e, which will utilize the A19 chip and feature a design similar to the recently announced iPhone 16e. However, perhaps the most exciting announcement for many Apple users is the potential release of a new external display for the Mac in 2026.

This would be Apple’s first new external display since the release of the Studio Display in 2022. Rumors suggest Apple is exploring multiple new display products, with 9to5Mac reporting on development of a model boasting a 7K resolution.

Smart Home Display Delayed, Apple Intelligence a Key Factor

The development of Apple’s smart home display has hit a snag. Originally planned for release in the first half of 2025, the device has been “delayed indefinitely” due to its reliance on unreleased Apple Intelligence features. According to the report, the device may now arrive in the first half of next year.

What’s Coming Later This Year

Despite the shift in focus to 2026, Apple still has a busy schedule for the remainder of 2024. The company is preparing to launch the iPhone 17 lineup, alongside updates to the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra. An updated Vision Pro powered by the M4 chip, and a new iPad Pro lineup powered by the M5 chip are also expected before the end of the year.

Apple’s roadmap demonstrates a strategic balance between incremental updates and long-term innovation, positioning the company for continued growth in a competitive tech landscape.
