Atletico Madrid is reportedly closing in on signing Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada, with negotiations valued at 35 million euros.
Simeone’s Compatriot a Key Target
After a period of deliberation, the Spanish club, known as the Colchoneros, has decided to push forward with the move, fending off strong competition from Benfica. The offensive midfielder was a specific request from Atletico’s coach and fellow Argentine, Diego Simeone.
Botafogo Loan Deal
Almada spent last season on loan at Lyon from Botafogo. He was identified as a primary target to bolster Atletico’s attack. Benfica was willing to pay 28 million euros for 50 percent of the player’s registration.
Almada’s desire to play under compatriot Simeone is seen as a significant factor in his potential move to Atletico Madrid.
