Abu Dhabi: The Central Bank has said that the Emirates ID is sufficient for transactions in the UAE. The decision follows the introduction of a visa with an Emirates ID instead of a passport. With this, all those who have residence and work visa in the country will only need an ID card at banks and financial institutions.

The Central Bank passed the notification to banks, money exchanges and companies. Following the unification of applications for visas and ID cards, the Federal Authority for Identity Citizenship, Customs and Port Security decided to provide training to typing center staff.

Visa entry into the country has been suspended from 11 a.m. onwards. Visa stamping will continue in some places for the time being until the new system is fully implemented in all emirates.
