You park the car in a blue zone without putting the ticket, or in a street restricted to traffic for just a few minutes to run an errand. But when you come back your car is gone. It is not surprising that the municipal tow truck or the service contracted by the City Council on duty removes our vehicle from the road. If this happens you have to act as quickly as possible since, every hour that the car spends in the municipal deposit of the crane, the amount to pay will go up.

The first thing to do is locate where they have been taken. On some occasions, the operator leaves a sticker attached to the ground, sign or nearest wall, indicating the deposit to which your vehicle has gone, the license plate and a contact telephone number.

If this does not happen, it is best to make a call to the municipal information telephone number.

Normally, if we provide the license plate number, they will tell us in which deposit the car is, the amount that we will have to pay for its removal, and the price per hour of parking. They will also indicate the documentation that we must necessarily show to proceed with its withdrawal. If it is a private vehicle, it will be enough with our ID or driving license if the car is in our name, and if it is in another person’s, we will also need a photocopy of the owner’s ID and an authorization signed by him. If it is a company car, we will need the original deeds of the same, authorization of the attorney and a photocopy of the DNI of the same.

The amount to be paid (withdrawal fee) will depend on the location, but can range from less than 70 euros in cities such as Badajoz, Guadalajara or Gijón to 152 euros in San Sebastián or Valencia; or the 180 euros from Zaragoza.

Once you arrive at the deposit and you are allowed to see your car, it is advisable to check its condition to report any possible damage it may have suffered during the transfer. If so, record it in a written complaint and take photos as evidence and then claim the repair of the same to the municipal service.

If you arrive at the car before the tow truck takes the vehicle In these cases, the process, and the cost, is much more bearable since, in some cases, the price of the fee (which in this case is called the interruption fee) it is half and in others it does not imply any cost (except perhaps the fine for improper parking) as is the case of Barcelona, Huelva or Tarragona.
