Sardinia Invests Over €20 Million in “Logo’s, Heart of the Island” Regional Development Plan

A comprehensive regional development initiative, “Logo’s, Heart of the Island,” received a significant boost with the delivery of an additional act outlining over €20 million in investments. The document was presented on July 18, 2025, in Nughedu San Nicolò to Regional Councilor for Programming and Budget Giuseppe Meloni.

A Collaborative Effort for Regional Growth

The plan represents a collaborative effort between the Union of Municipalities of Logudoro and the Mountain Community of the Goceano, with the support of regional authorities. Michele Carboni, president of the Union of Municipalities of Logudoro, and Antonio Fadda, president of the Mountain Community of the Goceano, formally delivered the act to Councilor Meloni in the presence of mayors from all sixteen participating municipalities. This collaborative approach underscores a commitment to territorial programming as a key driver of sustainable development.

Strategic Allocation of Funds

The €20 million investment will be strategically allocated across four key areas. A total of €2.3 million will be dedicated to the enhancement of cultural and environmental heritage, recognizing the importance of preserving Sardinia’s unique identity. The largest portion, €15 million, will focus on improving services for the quality of life and the well-being of the person, addressing critical needs within the region. An additional €1.5 million will be channeled towards bolstering the competitiveness of the territory, fostering economic growth, and €1.2 million will support territorial governance and reward endowment.

The sixteen municipalities benefiting from this investment include Ardara, IttiDdu, Mores, Nughero San Nicolò, Ozieri, Pattada, and Tula, representing the Union of Municipalities of Logudoro, alongside Anela, Benetutti, Bono, Bottidda, Bultei, Burgos, Esporlatu, Illorai, and Nule from the Mountain Community of the Goceano.

Evolution of a Regional Vision

According to a statement from the regional government, the additional act is a natural progression of ongoing efforts to address the evolving needs of the region. “In just nine months, starting from the works of the previous programming, on the impulse of the commissioner Meloni, the local administrations, with the support of the regional technicians, have managed to update and strengthen the projects already started, responding to new needs and introducing interventions capable of generating concrete impacts.”

Councilor Meloni emphasized the importance of a collaborative governance model. “These additional acts are the result of a patient, shared, built together with local administrators,” he stated. “Territorial programming is not only a financial instrument – it is a way of governing together, giving space to the proposals of the territories and accompanying them step by step.” He further highlighted the increase in resources, noting a rise from an initial €15 million to over €20 million for this ambitious project.

Addressing Depopulation Through Strategic Investment

Looking ahead, Councilor Meloni announced that a new territorial programming cycle will commence in the autumn, prioritizing areas previously excluded from the nine concluded programs. This initiative is framed as a crucial strategy in combating depopulation across the island. “A fundamental strategy in an anti-depopulation key throughout the island,” he explained, underscoring the long-term vision for sustainable regional development.

The document will now be presented to the Regional Council for approval, paving the way for the formal signing of the program agreement and the commencement of these vital projects.
