Did alleged burglars attempt to break into Teddi Mellencamp’s Los Angeles home on Monday night? Yes, two individuals reportedly tried to burglarize the reality star’s residence.

Edwin Arroyave, Mellencamp’s estranged husband, told reporters that three people jumped their gate and triggered the alarm system. The suspects managed to break into their office through a side door but fled after approximately 20 seconds.

“They had already ran out”

Arroyave and Mellencamp were at home with their four children, who are between the ages of 5 and 16.

“By the time we came down, they had already ran out,” Arroyave said. “But I just saw, obviously, the doors open at the house and stuff.”

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed that officers responded to a burglary report on Mellencamp’s block at 10:15 p.m. on Monday. The report indicated two men wearing black hoodies were seen approaching the house after a neighbor’s home was burglarized.

Suspects Fled Before Police Arrived

Arroyave believes the quick arrival of law enforcement, combined with the active security system and the fact that people were home, scared off the alleged burglars. He noted that the suspects escaped before officers could reach the property.

“You really don’t see anything because they have hoods, fully covered, gloves,” Arroyave described. “I mean, they’re professionals at what they do and stuff, although these seem pretty young.”

A Growing Concern in Los Angeles

Arroyave characterized such break-ins as an “unfortunate thing” that is happening with some frequency in Los Angeles. He chose to focus on the positive outcome, emphasizing that everyone remained safe despite the frightening experience.

Arroyave urged others to “prepare for the unexpected.”

Mellencamp has recently been in the news for her health journey. Earlier this year, she revealed that doctors discovered multiple tumors on her brain. She had previously shared her battle with stage 2 melanoma, which progressed to stage 4 cancer with tumors in her lungs and brain.

In February, she posted about a hospital visit for a debilitating headache that led to scans. Later that month, Mellencamp shared that her tumors had “significantly shrunk” following surgery and immunotherapy.

Mellencamp and Arroyave are currently separated, but they have paused their divorce proceedings as she undergoes cancer treatment. Arroyave stays in a guest room at Mellencamp’s house to ensure she is never alone during her health struggles.

Last month, Mellencamp shared on her podcast, “Two T’s in a Pod,” that she is dating someone new.
